To meet carbon emissions reduction targets heat and transport need to be decarbonised. Hydrogen is being considered as a flexible energy vector that could play an important part in this endeavour. With demonstration projects on the rise it is crucial to identify suitable odorants to ensure, safety regulations are met and public acceptance gained. Specifically, this work investigates the use of sulphur based odorants currently in use in the UK and Europe, alongside sulphur-free and experimental ones, for use in a 100% hydrogen gas demonstration network in the UK. Gas samples odorised with five different odorants are analysed to determine odour detection threshold, the odour intensity, its hedonic tone and character. The tests are performed by an accredited laboratory following EU standards. The results show that four odorants meet requirements as stenching agents for use in UK gas distribution network, whilst one, 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene, fails to demonstrate an unpleasant odour. 相似文献

Proof load tests of bridges can be very useful for structures with a lack of information, or for structures of which the effect of material degradation is difficult to assess. Contrary to diagnostic load testing, proof load testing is not well-defined in current standards in terms of required load and analysis of measurements. The risk related to the high loads used in proof load testing requires standardisation for these tests. The paper highlights important considerations for proof load testing that may lead to the development of guidelines in the Netherlands, by illustrating a pilot study on the viaduct Zijlweg in the Netherlands. This reinforced concrete bridge rates too low in shear. Topics of interest are the required load that the bridge has to withstand to be approved by the load test and the interpretation of the measurements during the test to avoid permanent damage to the structure. These measurements were compared to the stop criteria from existing codes for buildings, to examine if recommendations for the use with bridges can be formulated. The final result of the test on this case study is that the capacity of the viaduct is proven to be sufficient for shear and bending moment. 相似文献

The corrosion resistance of aluminium surfaces is closely linked to the surface state after a grinding process. For years, iron-containing abrasive materials were suspected to lead to increased corrosion susceptibility after processing of aluminium surfaces. To prove a possible correlation between the iron content of an abrasive and the corrosion behaviour of aluminium components, scientific investigations and experimentally practical corrosion tests are necessary. For the current investigation, specimens of a technical Al-Si alloy from the same batch were used. The test specimens were mechanically ground with various resin-bonded model abrasives containing different iron contents. The performed corrosion tests did not reveal a negative influence of the different iron-containing abrasives on the corrosion behaviour of the Al–Si alloy. The so-called Freeze Foaming method aims at manufacturing ceramic cellular scaffolds for diverse applications. One application is dedicated to potential bone replacement material featuring open, micro and interconnected porosity. However, the main challenges of this foaming method is to achieve a homogeneous pore morphology. In a current project, the authors throw light on the bubble/pore and strut formation of this process by in situ computed tomography. This allows for evaluating varying process parameter’s effects on the growth of the ceramic foam during the foaming process. As first result and basis for CT analysis, a stable and reproducible model suspension was developed which resulted in reproducible foam structures. In dependence of selected process parameters like pressure reduction rate or air content in the ceramic suspension resulting Freeze Foams became adjustable with regard to their pore morphology. Hereditary gynecological cancers are caused by several inherited genes. Tumors that arise in the female reproductive system, such as ovaries and the uterus, overlap with hereditary cancers. Several hereditary cancer-related genes are important because they might lead to therapeutic targets. Treatment of hereditary cancers should be updated in line with the advent of various new methods of evaluation. Next-generation sequencing has led to rapid, economical genetic analyses that have prompted a concomitant and significant paradigm shift with respect to hereditary cancers. Molecular tumor profiling is an epochal method for determining therapeutic targets. Clinical treatment strategies are now being designed based on biomarkers based on tumor profiling. Furthermore, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines significantly changed the genetic testing process in 2020 to initially consider multi-gene panel (MGP) evaluation. Here, we reviewed the molecular features and clinical management of hereditary gynecological malignancies, such as hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC), and Lynch, Li–Fraumeni, Cowden, and Peutz–Jeghers syndromes. Three kinds of ethylene-octene copolymers (POE) were melt-blended with high-density polyethylene (PE-HD) in different proportions. Detailed characterizations were conducted to analyze their structural differences of POE and its effects in toughening PE-HD. The higher molecular weight POE can improve the toughness of PE-HD. 60:40 PE-HD/POE is elongated to break up to 700% while impact strength is 84.7 kJ/m2 at −30°C, which is 21-fold of PE-HD. In the brittle to ductile transition (BDT) during impact, the fracture mechanism changes from the crazing mode to the shear yield-plastic deformation mode. The BDT temperature decreases as the POE molecular weight and its content increase. The interface strength in tension is estimated to access their effects. The Boltzmann-type models were successfully extended to describe the typical S-shaped curves in BDT of notched impact strength vs POE content or temperature. The supplementary decay model is suggested for the attenuation in toughening. Transition map in impact is proposed to select the use range of composition (c ) and temperature (T ) for high toughness. The curves are converted into 3D graph of T -c -impact strength for illustrating their coupling-separate effects, and further into the contour map of impact strength in T -c space for finding their partial equivalence. 相似文献
